The Yamaha FZ16 along with the YZF-R15 helped the Japanese two wheeler maker sustain operations in India.
The expansion of the FZ series resulted in a very healthy growth in sales for India Yamaha Motor. However, the same cannot be told about the naked motorcycle’s Indonesian venture.
Launched under the name Yamaha Byson roughly a year after its Indian debut, the brawny small displacement sportsbike didn’t gather even a fraction of the attention as it did in the sub-continent.
While the FZ series received regular cosmetic updates in the form of new decals in India, the FZ16 continued its lone run in Indonesia without any real changes, constantly outsold by the Honda Mega Pro.
Indonesians will take notice now as Yamaha has given the Byson a cosmetic makeover. The bike comes with sporty decals on the fuel tank, radiator cowl and the tailpiece, terming the color theme as the “Secret of Darkness”.
Mechanically, the Byson is identical to the India-spec FZ16. The 153cc air cooled 4-stroke engine breathes via a carburetor. The power and torque output stand at 14PS and 13.6 Nm respectively.
The price of the Yamaha Byson remains unchanged at 21.5 million Rupiah (around Rs. 1.25 lakhs).

The next generation 2015 Ford Mustang is being developed as we speak. While we have shown you many renderings of the legendary muscle car in the past, this rendering comes from Indian Autos Blog’s Shoeb!
Apart from its aggressive stance and the huge grille, the next generation Mustang also celebrates the brand’s 50th anniversary. To commemorate this, a special edition of the next gen model would be released during its launch. It is rumored to be called the 2014.5 (2014 and-a-half) edition. While this edition may not be heading to India, the regular Mustang might!
Yes, you read that right. Autocar India reports that the next gen Mustang, which would be made in right hand drive trim, could be seen at your neighborhood Ford dealership.
The report says that Ford is evaluating the feasibility of launching the muscle car in India. Even if Ford India is not targeting any specific volume, the Mustang would be a great brand builder for Ford. Currently, Ford India’s flagship product happens to be the Endeavour, which is also headed for a replacement soon.
Though the Mustang is available in coupe and convertible body styles, we do not know which model would come to India, if at all there are such plans. If the Mustang retains its American pricing of about 22,000 USD when it moves to the next generation, we expect it to be priced at INR 30 lakh in India.

Mahindra has released a teaser image of the Scorpio Special Edition on its Facebook page. The post also confirms that the car will “come soon” with “some luxurious features”.
The image shows a veiled car with a partially exposed front fascia. From what we see, there is nothing new about the Mahindra Scorpio Special Edition. Going back to 2010, Mahindra had launched a Scorpio Special Edition at the Delhi Auto Expo and it seems as if this is being re-introduced for this festive season.
The chequered flag decal above the front foglamp, blacked out scuff plate and the chrome plated alloy wheels from the teaser perfectly match the features on the 2010 special edition.
So, is Mahindra going to replicate the old Scorpio Special Edition to the last feature? If yes, expect features such as chequered flag decals on the sides and Special Edition badge on the tailgate apart from the details revealed in the teaser.
As in the previous special edition, the new Scorpio would come with leather upholstery and leather wrapped steering wheel. Expected to be based on the high-end variant, the special edition would offer all the bells and whistles in addition to a roof mounted DVD player.
The 2010 Scorpio Special Edition had a limited run of 1,000 units and we expect the same for the soon-to-be launched version. The Scorpio outsold the Renault Duster last month and the special edition would take advantage of the onset of the festive season to build the lead.

Regular readers are aware that at the 2013 Auto Shanghai, the Mercedes-Benz E Class L was shown, which is nothing but the long wheelbase version of the E Class. Mercedes has now conducted the market launch for the E Class L (at the ongoing Chengdu Motor Show) shortly after the start of local production.
The E Class L has been tailor-made for the Chinese market, which happens to be the second biggest E Class market for Mercedes-Benz (the first being the USA). Last year, Mercedes sold a record 40,000 units of the E Class in China alone! Beijing Benz Automotive Company (BBAC) is the sole manufacturer of the long wheelbase executive luxury sedan.
The rear seat legroom has been enhanced by 14cm, while Mercedes claims the E Class L to have the “longest rear seat cushion” in its class. Rear seat passengers can also adjust the front passenger seat and the panoramic sunroof through dedicated buttons. Two variants of the E Class L have been launched – ‘Sedan’ and ‘Sport Sedan’.
While the ‘Sedan’ gets a 3D radiator grille in a ‘three-louvre’ look with the Mercedes logo on the bonnet, the ‘Sport Sedan’ gets a centrally positioned logo on the grille.
Mercedes also announce in this press release that the BBAC facility is being expanded to make the upcoming GLA Class.

Hyundai’s compact crossover SUV is still sometime away but it has already caught the fantasy of rendering artists throughout the world.
In fact, we started it all! Our in-house design specialist Shoeb came up with the first ever speculative rendering of the mini SUV and now we witness many such renderings from other websites!
The latest addition to the list is from Caranddriverbrasil.uol.com.br. Every rendering points towards the same design direction of our speculative image.
Talking about its development, testing of the SUV started earlier this year in South Korea. Given it’s dimensions, we expect it to wage a war with the Ford EcoSport which goes on sale in Europe later this year.
The front fascia derives its roots from Hyundai’s Storm Edge design philosophy that is used by the new Santa Fe. However the profile and the rear of the car is unlike any existing Hyundai SUV. The roofline reminds us of the Hyundai CURB concept that was unveiled at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show.
The SUV is likely to be powered by turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. Both manual and automatic transmissions should be available. Going by what’s available to the current Hyundai products, expect the forthcoming SUV to have a tempting equipment list.
We expect the car to debut internationally in about a year’s time.

Renault has just revealed the 2014 Renault Megane facelift online. It will be world premiered at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show commencing on September 10th. The updated styling is rolled across all four variant lines of the Megane – the hatchback, the coupe, the estate and the performance oriented R.S version.
The major change is the new front bumper, which sports the distinctive Renault family identity, seen first on the new Clio last year. The new elliptical headlights ensures that the Megane’s looks are aligned with the rest of the range. Inside, the updated Meganes feature Renault’s new R-Link multimedia system.
Powertrain wise, the Megane range would feature a new engine which happens to be a 128bhp 1.2-liter TCe (130) engine. This engine would be mated to Renault’s EDC dual-clutch gearbox. It is to be noted that this particular engine could also be featured on the Dacia Duster facelift, which is also set to debut in Frankfurt.
The updated Meganes would first sell in Europe, starting in the first quarter of 2014. The refresh would be rolled out across other markets through the course of next year.
Apart from this updated Megane, the Renault brand would be presenting 6 concept cars at the Frankfurt Motor Show, all designed under the leadership of Laurens van den Acker.

AutoNetMagz.com has learned from HPM sources that the Honda Brio MPV is christened the Honda Mobilio. Honda has rarely used regional looks or names (the City is the Ballade in South Africa, and the Jazz is the Fit in the US) and this could be the name registered in all markets the car is destined for.
The Honda Mobilio will launch in Indonesia in three trim levels (S, E, E CVT) with a 1.5-liter petrol engine, at the Indonesian International Motor Show on September 19th. Though dealers are accepting bookings, production of the car begins not before early next year at the company’s new Karawang plant in West Java.
The Mobilio was jointly developed by Honda’s R&D Asia Pacific team in Thailand and PT Honda Prospect’s R&D team in Indonesia. The low cost family van will compete with cars such as the Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia, Chevrolet Spin and the Maruti Ertiga.
Another interesting fact about the Mobilio is its name, which comes from the archives. The Mobilio was a large MPV sold in Japan between 2001 and 2008. It was then replaced by the Honda Freed. Like the Terrano, there is some legacy to the name.
It is reported that the Honda Freed will remain on the market even after the Mobilio’s introduction.

Rolls Royce Motor Cars have opened their fourth showroom in India in the city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The showroom is that of Navnit Motors, who opened the first ever Indian Rolls Royce dealership in Mumbai in 2005.
The Ahmedabad showroom will retail models such as the Phantom, Ghost and the newly launched Wraith. Spread over 2,637 sq.ft, the showroom will house two display vehicles and also features a bespoke lounge where customers can choose from over 44,000 exterior colors and an infinite selection of wood, leather and interior combinations.
Rolls Royce will open another showroom in India in the month of October this year. Located in Chandigarh, this would be the fifth Rolls Royce showroom in India.
Herfried Hasenoehrl, General Manager, Emerging Markets Asia said -
Regular Indian Autos Blog readers may already know that Rolls Royce is considering an ‘India’ special edition, which according to Mr. Hasenoehrl would be ‘magnificent’.

Hatchbacks with a rough road package are making their way into India in the hope of creating a new segment. The Skoda Fabia Scout, the first contender in the segment had a lackluster start and now the VW Cross Polo is attempting to reboot the segment. In the coming months, the Tata Vista and the Fiat Punto would also be available with the flair of a crossover.
We always said that the auto markets of Brazil and India are similar in many ways. Just like in India, carmakers are looking to explore the potential of hatchbacks with crossover looks in Brazil. The trend was started last decade when VW launched the CrossFox.
Noticiasautomotivas.com.br reports that Toyota is planning to introduce a Cross variant of the Etios hatchback (Liva in India) when the model gets a minor refresh for 2014.
The Toyota Cross Etios is most likely to come with a new front apron, plastic wheel arch extensions and a body sill set. Also set to change are the alloy wheels, roof railing and the a ‘cross’ prefix or suffix badge to announce its pseudo-crossover identity. The interior is expected to undergo slight revisions with new trims and colors.
To be based on the top end XLS variant, the Etios Cross would be powered by a 1.5 litre flex fuel motor which is good for 96bhp. Expect the Cross variant to be sold at a considerable premium over the regular variant.
The Etios twins feel dull compared to its Chevy Onix-Prisma and Hyundai HB20-HB20S, and hence sales in design-conscious Brazil aren’t very encouraging, with the Chevys and Hyundais outselling it every month. Toyota is hoping to improve volumes of the Etios nameplate with the model year updates and through the Cross variant.
If the VW Cross Polo sells in decently good numbers, will Toyota Kirloskar Motor consider bringing the Etios Liva Cross to India?

Audi India has introduced a more powerful version of the Audi A4 2.0 TDI. Earlier, this A4 used to output only 140bhp and 32kgm of torque. The updated model now gets 177bhp and 380Nm of torque.
Audi claims a fuel efficiency of 17.11km/l for this more powerful model, a 3% increase over the less powerful 140bhp A4. 0-100km/h now takes 7.9 seconds as against the 10-odd seconds of the previous model.
The Audi Drive Select (which allows the driver to alter the suspension settings from Dynamic, Comfort, Auto and certain engine and steering parameters) will be available on the ‘Technology’ variant of the A4.
The 177bhp A4 is priced from INR 31.74 lakhs (ex-Showroom, Mumbai) and is available pan India.

The Datsun brand will unveil an all-new car on September 17th. The second car of the modern day Datsun brand would be unveiled in Jakarta, Indonesia, two days before the start of the 2013 Indonesian International Motor Show.
This new car would be the first of two models to go on sale in Indonesia in 2014. Datsun says that the car was “developed locally” and that the target audience would be the “new generation of aspirational customers”.
The press release uses the same words that we read for the Datsun Go and calls the car “modern, attractive, accessible and reliable”. The company also announces that the car would be priced below 100 million Indonesian Rupiah (INR 5.93 lakhs).
There is a good possibility that the second car is the rumored Datsun 7-seater MPV based on the Go. Datsun may want to capitalize on the fact that Indonesia is an MPV friendly market, and it certainly makes sense to have their first product cater to the LMPV (low cost MPV) segment.
The first Datsun for India will be the Go hatchback which was unveiled on July 15th. With prices promised below INR 4 lakhs, the Go hits the market in early 2014.

A leaked image showing the front of the Jaguar C-X17 concept SUV has been uncovered by CarScoops reader, Alex. Jaguar had earlier announced this week confirming past rumors that a concept SUV would indeed be shown at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show commencing on September 10th.
However, selected media would be getting a special preview of the C-X17 on September 9th and yes, Indian Autos Blog would be coming to you Live from the preview so do check back at 16:30 CET (21:00 IST) on that day.
Coming back to this image, the headlights seem to wear that mean and aggressive look which we see on the Jaguar XF and the XJ. Even the engine hood with a raised central portion resembles that of the XF. While Jaguar calls it a concept, this looks production ready!
Apart from previewing the design of their future SUV, the C-X17 also showcases Jaguar’s new highly advanced modular aluminium architecture. This aluminium architecture would also be the basis for Jag’s BMW 3 Series-rivaling sedan which is expected in 2014 or early 2015.
We think Jaguar has planned several models on this platform as the press release clearly mentions about the “diversity of vehicles that could be produced using this architecture", while also mentioning that it underpins the "innovative future of the Jaguar brand".

Honda has just announced their new design concept called the “EXCITING H DESIGN!!!”. And yes, those three exclamations do have a meaning as you will soon find out.
The Japanese car maker says that this design concept would be applied to all their global products for a “more unique character and stronger presence around the world”. Think of this like the Audi Bulgarian Beard, which though being only a design characteristic, is applied to all Audi’s big and small.
The first of these H DESIGN!!!’s would be seen on the 2014 Honda Jazz/Fit, which was launched in Japan yesterday. If you compare the front of the new Jazz to the image of the H DESIGN!!!, you’ll notice that the grille is made of two distinctive elements – a broad element that connects the headlights and a slimmer element that runs underneath it, looking like a trough. Honda calls this the “Solid Wing Face”.
As far as the three exclamations are concerned, they symbolize the following:
Exteriors will adopt the Solid Wing Face and an advanced and uninterrupted design would follow. Interiors get an easy-to-use “Advanced Interface”.
Exteriors get a “well toned” body while the interiors get a “sporty and emotional” looking cockpit.
On the outside, cars will have “Dramatic Surfacing” for emotional attraction while the interiors focus on the texture of materials used.
Expect to see the H DESIGN!!! take shape on the Urban SUV, which like the new Jazz, is bound for India.
